Your Birth Center
The Feeling Of Home
Personal. Safe. Comfortable. Inviting. Just some of the words our families use to describe how they feel in our care. Every visit is like coming home to your friends and family. The people, the ambiance, the rooms – all set up to celebrate the joy and exhilaration that is natural childbirth and becoming a parent.
We believe in developing trusting, personal relationships with the women and families we serve. We are attached to providing you with evidence-based information so you can make an informed choice that is right for your family. What else makes us different?
- We are nationally accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC), the highest marker of excellence among free-standing birth centers nationwide. We are the only accredited birth center in the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.
- We hold bachelors degrees as a foundation of education, followed by midwifery degrees from accredited midwifery programs.
- We attained extensive clinical training in out-of-hospital births including waterbirths and home births, working for years under preceptorship of senior midwives at birth centers and at home births in Los Angeles.
- We are certified in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Fetal Monitoring, and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO).
- We are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC). This is the highest credential in lactation support.
- All of our births are attended by two midwives or a midwife and a senior midwifery student, while most midwifery practices only offer one midwife and one birth assistant.

Micaela Ray, MSN, CNM
Masters of Science in Nurse-Midwifery, Certified Nurse Midwife. Micaela has been
serving pregnant clients and their families since 2012. Her experiences began at a lovely birth
center in a mountain town called Flagstaff, Arizona. There she wore many hats and deepened her love of all things birth, midwifery, and community. Micaela followed an alternate path to becoming a midwife, where she was first a registered nurse, and then completed her masters degree in Nurse-Midwifery. She has worked in home birth practices, several birth centers, and finally finished her training with the midwife group at UCLA Hospital-Santa Monica.
With her diverse background, she offers a unique perspective to her clients, and strongly values holistic, evidence-based midwifery. She believes all women and pregnant people are deserving of quality, compassionate, options-based care both in pregnancy and throughout their lifespan.
Micaela’s love of warm and welcoming spaces led her to find Renee at SCV Birth Center. She believes that this beautiful place will support you and your growing family through laughter, shared stories, as well as honest and meaningful relationships.
Micaela lives a life of constant learning, and loves bringing new research and ideas into
the conversation. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, practicing yoga, reading, quilting,
cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband and their two dogs.
Meredith “Chavah” BenZion
Meredith “Chavah” BenZion (been-TSEE-ohn) LM, has been attending births for 24 years.
Licensed by the State of California in 2003, she has practiced in a wide variety of settings.
Chavah is also a Doula, a Doula and Midwifery Mentor, and the creator of AskAMidwife.net, an online resource for midwifery advice and support. Originally from San Diego, Chavah recently returned to the US -with her husband and 4 children- from Israel, where she spent the last 13 years as community midwife and doula for the women and families in her village. She is really looking forward to putting down roots and serving her new community of Santa Clarita, and she is delighted and honored to be one of SCV Birth Center’s newest Midwives.
Chavah says: “My approach to care in pregnancy, birth and postpartum is based on educating and empowering those I serve to make healthy decisions for themselves and their babies. I assist my client by addressing her concerns, reducing any fears or anxiety, and helping her build confidence in her strength and resourcefulness as a mother and in the couple’s abilities to work together. I focus on developing strong bonds of trust, mutual respect, healthy boundaries, honesty and open communication between myself and my clients, from whom I expect a high level of personal accountability. I view the relationship as a cooperative partnership, as opposed to the western view that the care provider is above those she cares for. I believe birth belongs to the one giving birth, and there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. The choice of birth locale, pain-relief options, and support people are all a matter of personal preference. Birth in the place she feels safest often has the best outcome. With access to information, options, and support, the woman can determine what is best for herself and her baby. I feel very strongly that one of the best ways to enhance the woman’s birth experience is prenatal connection.”
